Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., will meet with President-elect Donald Trump at his Mar-a-Lago estate at his invitation, the lawmaker confirmed to CBS News.

Fetterman has emerged as a Democratic lawmaker willing to buck his own party at times and has co-sponsored the "Laken Riley Act" in the upper chamber to give law enforcement more authority to detain illegal aliens accused of crimes.

"That is the plan. Yes, we are going to have a conversation," he told the outlet of his meeting with Trump. "I think it's pretty reasonable that if the president would like to have a conversation — or invite someone to have a conversation — to have it. And no one is my gatekeeper."

Fetterman will become the first sitting Democratic lawmaker to visit Trump at his Florida estate.

He has previously expressed openness to confirming some of Trump's key nominees, especially Defense Secretary-designate Pete Hegseth.
