Democratic Rep. Spanberger wins high-profile reelection bid in Virginia
The race was considered a bellwether for how Democrat incumbents in swing districts would perform on Election Day.
Democratic Rep. Abigail Spanberger on Tuesday won a third term in Virginia's 7th Congressional District.
Spanberger defeated Republican Yesli Vega in a race many political analysts considered a bellwether on whether Republicans would retake the House in a wave election and how Democrat incumbents in swing districts would perform on Election Day.
The Associated Press called the race for Spanberger with 98% of polls reporting.
Spanberger, a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and House Agriculture Committee, is a moderate lawmaker who has called for new House Democratic leadership.
High-profile Republicans including Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz had campaigned for Vega.
