Kentucky Rep. Massie endorses DeSantis for 2024 GOP presidential nominee
Ron DeSantis has not formally announced his candidacy yet
Kentucky GOP Rep. Thomas Massie has endorsed Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis for president in 2024.
Massie's press office on Wednesday confirmed the endorsement, which was first announced in a press release by the DeSantis super PAC, Never Back Down.
"America needs a leader who is decisive, respects the Constitution, understands policy, puts family first, and leads by inspiring," Massie is quoted saying in the PAC's release. "That's why I'm endorsing Ron DeSantis for president."
DeSantis has not formally announced his candidacy yet.
The press release also cited Massie and DeSantis's professional relationship when they served in congress together.
"I've been honored to call Ron DeSantis a friend for over a decade," the press release continued. "During the six years we served together in congress, I witnessed Ron fight for economic freedom, personal liberty, fiscal responsibility, and constitutionally limited government."
Rep. Massie and former President Donald Trump have had a back and forth relationship, with the former president at once saying Massie should be thrown out of the Republican Party. Later, Trump endorsed him for re-election in 2022.
