Following FBI raid, Democrat Rep. Cuellar says still running for 2022 reelection, intends to win

Texas Democratic Rep. Henry Cuellar says he will seek, and win, reelection following an FBI raid of his home, with Election Day roughly eight months away.

Cuellar made the announcement Tuesday in a Twitter video, less than a week after FBI agents raided his home and campaign offices.

In the video recorded outside of his childhood home, the longtime congressman thanked his supporters and said he was certain his name would be cleared following the probe. He did not, however, discuss why the FBI, in possession of grand jury issues subpoenas, searched his property.

"There is an ongoing investigation that will show there is no wrongdoing on my party," said Cuellar, adding that he is "fully cooperating with law enforcement."

In less than six weeks, Cuellar will also face a difficult primary challenge against progressive challenger Jessica Cisneros, his former intern. 

Though the details of the investigation remain unclear, it is reportedly connected to the congressman's ties to Azerbaijan.

"I pride myself on being your congressman, and always doing things honestly, ethically and the right way," Cuellar also said.

Post-raid, the Cuellar campaign spent $60,000 on an ad buy, in addition to more than $100,000 in air time, that will run through the end of January, signaling that the congressman and his team will not be backing down.
