Late into election night, scuffles and standoffs but no major incidents so far
Journalists reported scattered minor incidents throughout the day Nov. 3.
With cities across the nation braced for election night violence – including boarding-up windows and beefed-up security – the anticipated chaos had yet to materialize as midnight approached.
Journalists reported scattered incidents of minor scuffles throughout Tuesday. In one incident, rival demonstrators in Houston reportedly engaged in a pushing match. In another, people in Montgomery County, Maryland, threw a bottle of hand sanitizer at a vehicle that sported Donald Trump flags.
Observers on scene in Washington, D.C. described large crowds near the White House, as people gathered into the evening on Election Day. Twitter users posted photos depicting crowds and police.
Local news outlets in the nation's capitol reported that a scuffle erupted before 10 p.m. One person appeared to have been detained by police, outlets noted, but crowds primarily were peaceful, watching election coverage on outdoor projection screens.
