Democrats take over Michigan, Minnesota Legislatures, possibly Pennsylvania House

Democrats in this week's midterm election voting have taken control of the statehouses in Michigan and Minnesota and may still gain control of Pennsylvania's Legislature as ballots continue to be counted.

For the first time in nearly four decades, Michigan Democrats have full control over the state Legislature and the executive branch with Gov. Gretchen Witmer's reelection on Tuesday, Politico reported. 

The Minnesota Senate also flipped blue, creating a trifecta in the state with Democrat Gov. Tim Walz's reelection as well.

While the results are still unclear in Pennsylvania, Democrats may take over the 203-member House. As of Thursday morning, The Associated Press has called the race in favor of 100 Democrats and 99 Republicans in the statehouse. Republicans still remain in control of the state Senate.

"This election should have been a landslide for Republicans — instead Democrats fended off the so-called 'red wave' in the states and gained critical ground for the decade ahead," Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee President Jessica Post said.

Despite Democrats' victories, however, the majority of state legislatures are still controlled by Republicans.
