Barack, Michelle Obama to hit campaign trail with Kamala Harris

The Obamas will hit the campaign trail with Vice President Kamala Harris, the 2024 Democratic nominee, in the homestretch of the 2024 election cycle, ending in Election Day, Nov. 5.

Most of the latest national polls show Harris and former President Donald Trump, the GOP presidential nominee, in a dead heat.

Former President Barack Obama will join Harris at a campaign event in Georgia on Thursday, marking their first joint appearance. 

Former first lady Michelle Obama is scheduled to campaign with Harris in Michigan on Saturday, Oct. 26, which will be their first joint appearance.

The Obamas each delivered speeches at the Democratic National Convention in support of Harris in August.

The former president drew some criticism for his efforts last week to help Harris win when his get-out-the-vote message at a Pittsburgh campaign field office included the suggestion that black males appear reluctant to vote for a female president.

“And you are thinking about sitting out?” he said. “Part of it makes me think – and I'm speaking to men directly – part of it makes me think that, well, you just aren't feeling the idea of having a woman as president, and you're coming up with other alternatives and other reasons for that.”
