AOC goes after New York Democrat Party leadership after GOP makes gains in midterms
With Republicans picking up seats in the midterms, AOC goes after Democratic leadership for their failures during the midterms
New York Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez slammed the state's party leadership after Republicans picked up some seats in the House in Tuesday's midterm elections.
"NYS Dem party leadership, which was gutted under [former New York Gov. Andrew] Cuomo [D], stuffed with lobbyists, works to boost GOP, and failed to pass a basic state ballot measure to protect NY redistricting, must be accountable," AOC wrote on Twitter.
She was responding to a New York Times article citing how the state had become more red in this midterm election.
The New York congresswoman criticized the New York State Democratic Party president Jay Jacob, who came under fire for making an analogy about white nationalist David Duke back in 2021.
"I called for Jay Jacob's resignation a year ago and I still hold that position," AOC wrote on twitter.
"After leading the party to a catastrophic ballot measure loss that would've saved Dem House seats, the party chair (Jacobs) compared a Black woman Dem nominee to the KKK. He was protected," Ocasio-Cortez's Twitter post continued. "Last night's underperformance is a consequence of that decision."
Republicans picked up three New York House seats and even defeated the chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, Sean Patrick Maloney, who conceded in the Hudson Valley on Wednesday.
