Defiant Haley says she won't drop out 'until the American people close the door'

Former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley on Tuesday delivered a "state of the race" address ahead of the South Carolina GOP primary in which she declared she would not drop out of the contest despite a considerable polling deficit.

"Some of you — perhaps a few of you in the media — came here today to see if I’m dropping out of the race," Haley said in a "state of the race" address in South Carolina, according to Politico. "Well, I’m not. Far from it."

She further vowed that she would stay in the race "until the American people close the door."

A former Palmetto State governor, Haley appears poised for a decisive defeat in her home state this weekend, with polling showing former President Donald Trump leading her by nearly two-to-one margins.

Despite previously serving in Trump's cabinet, Haley has largely broken with her primary rival on matters of foreign policy and personality. During the Tuesday event, Haley insisted that Trump had "gotten more unstable and unhinged" and said he is "getting meaner and more offensive by the day."
