Fauci: Increased vaccinations mean COVID-19 less likely to surge in fall, winter
"That's the reason why vaccinations are so important," Fauci said during an interview on Meet the Press.
Anthony Fauci during an interview on Meet the Press said that the more people who get vaccinated against COVID-19, the less likely it is that there will be a major uptick in coronavirus cases during the fall and winter.
Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said that "the larger proportion of the population that's vaccinated, the less likelihood that in a season like the coming fall or winter your gonna see a significant surge. There's no doubt about that. That's the reason why vaccinations are so important. That's the wildcard that we have now that we didn't have last fall or last winter."
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that 45.8% of the U.S. population has received at least one vaccine shot and 34.4% have been fully vaccinated.
