Trumps appeal judge's ruling requiring them to testify in New York probe

Former President Donald Trump and his children Ivanka and Donald Jr., on Monday filed an appeal to a judge's ruling that requires them to testify in New York state's civil inquiry into his business practices. 

The appeal will likely result in a months-long legal battle over their testimonies, the Associated Press reported.

Attorneys for the family argue that having the Trumps answer questions under oath would violate their constitutional rights because their responses "could be used in a parallel criminal investigation," AP reported.

New York Attorney General Letitia James (D) filed a subpoena in December to force the former president to testify. The following month, James filed two more subpoenas to compel Ivanka Trump and Donald Trump Jr. to testify in her ongoing civil investigation into the Trump Organization's business practices.

Judge Arthur Engoron ruled earlier this month that the three Trumps must comply with the subpoena and sit for a deposition within three weeks.
