Trump on inflation numbers: 'How can people survive this?'
President Biden dismissed data as "out of date"
Former President Donald Trump responded Wednesday to the federal government report showing record-high inflation, asking, "How can people survive."
The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that inflation in June was 9.1% higher that it was 12 months earlier, as part of the agency's monthly Consumer Price Index report.
"Fuel prices up 60%, Airfare up 34%, Eggs up 33% – how can people survive?" Trump asked.
The June inflation report marks the highest annual increase in more than four decades.
"Our Country is so weak right now because the Radical Left Democrats have no clue what they are doing. All they want to do is 'get Trump,' and they are willing to destroy our Nation to do it," Trump also wrote. "America will not allow this to go on for much longer. Don't vote for the Radical Left Democrats, vote for American First Republicans – Save America!"
But President Biden called the data "out of date."
"While today’s headline inflation reading is unacceptably high, it is also out of date," Biden said. "Energy alone comprised nearly half of the monthly increase in inflation. Today’s data does not reflect the full impact of nearly 30 days of decreases in gas prices that have reduced the price at the pump by about 40 cents since mid-June.
He also said commodities such as wheat have "fallen sharply since this report."
