Trump accuses Biden of having 'weakness and lack of support for Israel,' amid deadly airstrikes

Former President Trump on Tuesday issued a statement in which he said President Biden's "weakness" and dearth of support for Israel has translated into an increase in world violence.

"When I was in office we were known as the Peace Presidency, because Israel's adversaries knew that the United States stood strongly with Israel and there would be swift retribution if Israel was attacked," Trump said in the statement. "Under Biden, the world is getting more violent and more unstable because Biden's weakness and lack of support for Israel is leading to new attacks on our allies." 

The statement comes amid a wave of deadly violence in the region as rocket attacks launched from Gaza target Israel, and Israel executes airstrikes on Gaza.

Hamas, an Islamic militant group that controls the strip, has claimed responsibility for the air strikes. 

Nearly three dozen people have been killed in the attacks that began this week. There have been more than two dozen Palestinians killed in Gaza, most from airstrikes, according to health officials there, the Associated Press reported. The outlet added that according to Israel's military at least 16 of the deceased were militants.

At least three individuals have been killed in Israel amid the violence.

Trump as president strengthened U.S. relations with Israel, America's oldest and strongest Middle East ally. Relations became strained under President Obama, for whom Biden served as vice president. 

Trump, who during his tenure in office moved the U.S. embassy in the Jewish State from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, declared in his statement Tuesday that the U.S. must steadfastly support Israel as well as its right to self defense.

"America must always stand with Israel and make clear that the Palestinians must end the violence, terror, and rocket attacks, and make clear that the U.S. will always strongly support Israel's right to defend itself. Unbelievably, Democrats also continue to stand by crazed anti-American Rep. Ilhan Omar, and others, who savagely attack Israel while they are under terrorist assault," Trump said.

Omar, a Minnesota Democrat and one of the first two Muslim women to serve in Congress, accused Israel of "terrorism" following the air strikes on the strip.
