Miles Taylor identifies himself as the author of anonymous 2018 New York Times op-ed

Former Chief of Staff Miles Taylor at the Department of Homeland Security issued a statement on Wednesday in which he identified himself as the author of the anonymous 2018 New York Times op-ed which said that there was a "resistance" in President Trump's administration.

Taylor — who earlier this year endorsed Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden, according to the New York Times — also identified himself as the author of the anonymous book called "A Warning" in his newly released statement.

Taylor's statement continued to level sharp criticism against President Trump.

"Trump has been exactly what we conservatives always said government should NOT be: expansive, wasteful, arbitrary, unpredictable, and prone to abuses of power," he wrote. "Worse still, as I've noted previously, he's waged an all-out assault on reason, preferring to enthrone emotion and impulse in the seat of government. The consequences have been calamitous, and if given four more years, he will push the limits of his power further than the 'high crimes and misdemeanors' for which he was already impeached."

Taylor said that he did not write for the sake of financial gain: "To be clear, writing those works was not about eminence (they were published without attribution), not about money (I declined a hefty monetary advance and pledged to donate the bulk of the proceeds), and not about crafting a score-settling 'tell all' (my focus was on the President himself and his character, not denigrating former colleagues)," he noted.

Trump campaign national press secretary Hogan Gidley issued a statement blasting Taylor and criticizing the media.

“This is the least impressive, lamest political ‘reveal’ of all time," Gidley said. "I worked with DHS officials while I was in the White House, and even I had to research who Miles Taylor was. He’s just another standard-issue arrogant, Washington, DC swamp bro who loved President Trump until he figured out he could try to make money by attacking him. He lied to Anderson Cooper on CNN in August when he denied being ‘Anonymous,’ proving that all he ever wanted to do was try and extend his fleeting 15 minutes of fame and squeeze a few more book sales out of the deal."

"By contrast, U.S. Navy veteran Tony Bobulinksi is not anonymous and is publicly pointing the finger at a real corrupt politician, Joe Biden, who schemed with his family to make millions from foreign business investors," Gidley continued. "The very fact that the Beltway media cared about and hyped up ‘Anonymous’ just emphasizes how derelict they are when they totally ignore the readily visible Biden pay-to-play scandal unfolding before their eyes.”
