Actor Gary Sinise's son 'Mac' dead at 33 due to rare cancer
Mac was first diagnosed after joining the Gary Sinise Foundation.
Actor Gary Sinise's son, McCanna Anthony Sinise, died last month at the age of 33, the actor announced Tuesday.
"Mac" had struggled with Chordoma, a rare form of cancer for years. He underwent a surgery to remove the first tumor in 2018 and a second procedure the following year, though the Chordoma persisted and gradually saw him deteriorate, the actor stated in a tribute to his son.
Mac was first diagnosed after joining the Gary Sinise Foundation. He often played as a drummer in his father's Lt. Dan Band, a musical project named for his father's iconic role as Lt. Dan in the film "Forrest Gump."
"Like any family experiencing such a loss, we are heartbroken and have been managing as best we can. As parents, it is so difficult losing a child," Sinise said. "My heart goes out to all who have suffered a similar loss, and to anyone who has lost a loved one. We've all experienced it in some way."
Sinise further touched on his son's Catholic faith, including his son's favorite quote from St. Augustine: "You have made us for yourself oh Lord, and our hearts are restless until they rest in you."
The actor also confirmed that his son's final musical album "Mac Sinise: Resurrection and Revival" will soon become available.
