The University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill has lifted a lockdown prompted by reports that an "armed, dangerous person" was seen in the area. Initial reports suggest that shots were fired inside a campus building.

The lockdown was first issued shortly after 1 p.m. local time.  The stay-in-place order remained in effect until roughly 4:30 p.m., The Hill reported. It remains unclear if any individuals have sustained injuries.

University Police have posted a photo of a person of interest and advised people to "keep your distance" and call 911 if they encountered him.
