FBI investigating antifa video that threatened Portland mayor with violence, rioting
"Blood is already on your hands ... Next time, it may just be your own."
The Federal Bureau of Investigation is helping local law enforcement investigate a video that delivered a barely-veiled threat of violent assault against Portland, Ore. Mayor Ted Wheeler.
In the disturbing video, a masked speaker in a distorted voice identifies himself as a member of "a small collective within the anarchist and antifascist community." The speaker claims that Wheeler "is undeserving of his position" and that the group is not just targeting Wheeler but rather "challenging the idea of having mayors at all."
"We are moving with a sense of urgency," the speaker states, declaring Wheeler is part of Portland's "failed leadership," that he needs to resign from his post, and that if he ignores the message then "the destruction to [his] precious way of life is going to escalate."
"Blood is already on your hands, Ted," the speaker says. "And next time, it may just be your own." The video also contains a snapshot of what appears to be Wheeler's home address.
The FBI confirmed this week that it was assisting in investigating the video.
"The FBI is aware of the video and is assisting Portland Police Bureau in the investigation," a bureau spokeswoman told media. "Due to the ongoing nature of the case, we have no further information to release at this time."
