McConnell cancels Senate break to deal with coronavirus

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Thursday cancelled the chamber's mid-session recess so that members can continue efforts to address the coronavirus outbreak, including attempts to pass a second emergency spending bill. 

“The Senate will be in session next week," tweeted the Republican leader of the GOP-controlled chamber. "I am glad talks are ongoing between the administration and Speaker Pelosi. I hope Congress can pass bipartisan legislation to continue combating the coronavirus and keep our economy strong."

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, the leader of the Democrat-controlled lower chamber, has been negotiating a deal with Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin.  

The sides are reportedly close to a deal and are expected to hold a final House vote by this evening.
