Former Trump official warns Biden's Iran moves funding next terrorist attack on US soil

Former President Donald Trump's senior director on the National Security Council, Robert Greenway, warned Tuesday that President Joe Biden's dealings with Iran would fund the next terrorist attack on the United States.

"All of these threats, the provision of resources to Iran in the form of over $100 billion, what we left in Afghanistan, and, to your point, what we're continuing to provide to them – which is not to say anything of what we're allowing to go in from other countries – is absolutely funding the next terrorist attack on U.S. soil," Greenway said on the "Just the News, No Noise" TV show. 

According to a report from the United Nations Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team, al-Qaeda has reconstituted as many as eight training camps and five religious training schools known as madrassas on Afghan soil under the Taliban’s rule.

U.S. Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction John Sopko reported that the U.S. accounted for all but $300 million of the $2.9 billion in humanitarian aid sent to the Taliban since the withdrawal of American troops in August 2021. 

"I can assure you ... that the reporting is almost certainly accurate, and almost certainly much worse," Greenway said. "Now, remember we left $83 billion worth of equipment and infrastructure on the battlefield to exactly the same people that we took Afghanistan away from after the 9/11 attacks."

"The reason was that the Taliban were providing sanctuary and safe haven to al Qaeda," he added. "We can't claim surprise that that's the case now."
