Biden taps Willie Phillips to lead Federal Energy Regulatory Commission
Phillips is one of the two Democrats currently on the panel.
President Joe Biden announced on Friday that he had named Willie Phillips to become the permanent chairman of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) after he held the position in an acting capacity for more than a year.
Philips has been a FERC Commissioner since November of 2021 and has more than 20 years of experience as a regulatory attorney, the White House noted. He previously served as the Assistant General Counsel for the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) and as the D.C. Public Service Commission chairman.
"Willie was a thoughtful and innovative leader in modernizing the energy grid, implementing the District’s aggressive clean energy and climate goals, and in protecting the District’s customers," the White House said.
Phillips is one of the two Democrats currently on the panel, The Hill noted. One seat remains vacant while Republicans hold the other two.
