Biden speaks at gun control event after Hunter found guilty on federal gun charges
Biden will "highlight the progress to keep guns out of dangerous hands thanks to the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act and the Administration’s work to combat the epidemic of gun violence in America."
President Biden delivered a speech before an organization dedicated to gun control measures on the same day his son, Hunter, was found guilty on federal gun charges.
The event where Biden spoke on Tuesday was Everytown’s Gun Sense University.
Biden highlighted the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act and his creation of the Office of Gun Violence Prevention in the White House as examples of steps he has taken on gun control.
Biden called for more to be done.
"Ban assault weapons," he said in the speech. "It's time we establish universal background checks."
He also said the general "immunity" that gun dealers and manufactures have against lawsuits should end "immediately."
According to the organization's official website, "Mayors Against Illegal Guns and Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America came together" in 2013 to "tackle our shared goal of ending gun violence. Since then, we have combined the best minds in research, policy, litigation, advocacy, and grassroots organizing to grow Everytown for Gun Safety into a movement of nearly 10 million supporters."
The president is scheduled to travel to his home in Wilmington, Del. following his speech. His son's trial took place Wilmington as well.
