Biden holds press conference at the same time as Harris rally in Michigan, raising questions
CNN said that Biden was “clearly overshadowing” the Democratic vice presidential nominee.
Some of President Joe Biden's recent actions and statements have led to speculation that he may be intentionally sabotaging Vice President Kamala Harris's campaign for the presidency. The latest such speculation involves the timing of his appearance at a White House briefing and the comments he made there.
While CNN was about to cut to a Harris campaign rally in Michigan Friday afternoon, the network switched its coverage when Biden came out for an unscheduled press conference, according to The Daily Wire.
CNN said that Biden was “clearly overshadowing” the Democratic vice presidential nominee. It was the first time in his nearly four years in office that he has shown up at a White House press briefing.
Conservatives in the past have made jokes and suggestions that Biden has taken subtle shots at Harris after he dropped out of the Democratic presidential primary, about which many have said he was actually pushed out rather than willingly and patriotically dropped out.
During the Friday press briefing he said that Harris was a major part of his administration and had a significant role in passing a number of laws.
"She helped pass all the laws that are being employed," said Biden, according to Fox News. "Now, she was a major player in everything we've done, including passage of legislation which we were told we could never pass. And so she's been, and her, her staff is interlocked with mine in terms of all the things we're doing."
Since Harris has at times seemed to attempt to distance herself from the Biden administration and its policies, some conservatives have posted their reactions on social media.
"He is literally trying to destroy her campaign and it’s just incredible," one user wrote.
The Daily Wire cites reports that a possible explanation for President Biden "clearly overshadowing" Harris in this instance is that he remains "surprised, even miffed, that his party and its media organs have moved past his presidency to focus on Harris," and that he was not pleased with her statement and emphasis during her presidential debate with Donald Trump that she is “clearly … not Joe Biden.”
