Biden dismisses age concerns by joking and pointing to Trump

President Joe Biden dismissed concerns about his age ahead of the 2024 presidential election during an appearance on "Late Night with Seth Meyers" by joking and pointing to his likely opponent, former President Donald Trump.

"Number one, you got to take a look at the other guy. He's about as old as I am but he can't even remember his wife's name," Biden said Monday in response to a question from host Seth Meyers about how the 81-year-old commander-in-chief plans to address voters' concerns about his age. 

Biden was referring to how at the Conservative Political Action Conference over the weekend, the 77-year-old Trump praised his wife, Melania Trump, and then said, "Mercedes, that's pretty good," as the crowd cheered.

"Number two," Biden continued, "It's about how old your ideas are. Look, I mean, this is a guy who wants to take us back. He wants to take us back on Roe v. Wade. He wants to take us back on a whole range of issues that are– 50, 60 years, they've been solid American positions."

With Biden being the oldest president in U.S. history, his team has been defending concerns about his age as polls show that most Americans feel he is too old to run for president.

For example, California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom, who has been campaigning for Biden, said in an interview Sunday that the president's age is why "he's been so successful."
