President-elect Donald Trump's pick for Defense secretary, Pete Hegseth, is set to say Tuesday during his Senate confirmation hearing that if confirmed he would restore the "warrior culture" in the U.S. military.

"As I’ve said to many of you in our private meetings, when President Trump chose me for this position, the primary charge he gave me was to bring the warrior culture back to the Department of Defense," Hegseth's wil say in opening remarks obtained by CNN. "He, like me, wants a Pentagon laser focused on war fighting, lethality, meritocracy, standards, and readiness. That’s it. That is my job."

Hegseth, a former Fox News TV host, in his hearing before the Senate Armed Service Committee is expected to face tough questions about his past including excessive drinking and allegations of financial mismanagement of a veteran’s organization.
