Five men face detention hearings over alleged plot to kidnap Michigan Gov. Whitmer
The hearing will determine whether the men should be held in jail while they await trial.
Five men accused of conspiring to kidnap Michigan Gov. Whitmer will appear in federal court Tuesday to determine whether they should be detained before trial. The men are charged in federal court and if convicted could face up to life in prison.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Sally Berens will oversee the bail and detention proceeding in Grand Rapids, Mich., which will decide whether the defendants remain in jail while awaiting trial.
The kidnapping probe has resulted in the arrest of 13 men who allegedly worked together to kidnap the Democratic governor, in response to her "uncontrolled power" throughout the coronavirus lockdowns and mandates.
Seven of the suspects were linked to the militia group known as the Wolverine Watchmen. Two of the men had bonds set at $10 million last week, and four others had bonds set at $250,000.
The FBI made arrests last week after conducting undercover surveillance.
