A car plunged into a Washington, D.C., river Thursday night under the Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge, killing three people.

The incident occurred at about 10:30 p.m., and authorities continued their search-and-rescue efforts into early Friday morning along the Anacostia River.

One person was found dead in the car, and divers later found the two others dead in the water.

Investigators as of Friday afternoon were still unsure about whether the car went off the bridge or off a road underneath the bridge, according to local TV station NBC-4
