Homeland Security inspector general investigating Secret Service over handling of Trump rally

The agency's IG said the probe is focused on evaluating the United States Secret Service’s (Secret Service) "process for securing former President Trump’s July 13, 2024 campaign event.”

Homeland Security inspector general Joseph V. Cuffari opened an investigation of the U.S. Secret Service over its handling of security at the Trump campaign in Butler, Pa. on Saturday. 

The agency's OIG said the probe is focused on evaluating the Secret Service’s “process for securing former President Trump’s July 13, 2024 campaign event.”

The office will also investigate the incident “to determine the extent to which the [Secret Service] Counter Sniper Team is prepared to respond to threats at events attended by designated protectees.”
