Bondi vows 'there will never be an enemies list' within the Justice Department

“There will never be an enemies list within the Department of Justice,” Bondi testified. “We all take an oath to uphold the law…So, will everyone be held to an equal, fair system of justice if I am the next attorney general? Absolutely.

Attorney General nominee Pam Bondi on Wednesday promised the Senate Judiciary Committee that she would not pursue a so-called "enemies list" if she's confirmed to the post.

Bondi, who was tapped by President-elect Donald Trump for the position, was among a group of Trump Cabinet nominees to testify in front of the Senate on Wednesday. Florida GOP Sen. Marco Rubio, who has been nominated for Secretary of State, and Transportation Secretary-designate Sean Duffy also testified in front of their respective committees.

Rhode Island Democratic Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse questioned Bondi over the list, which comes after she told Fox News last year that "prosecutors would be prosecuted" and "investigators will be investigated."

“There will never be an enemies list within the Department of Justice,” Bondi told the senator. “We all take an oath to uphold the law…So, will everyone be held to an equal, fair system of justice if I am the next attorney general? Absolutely."

"I will not target people simply because of their political affiliation," she said. "Justice will be administered evenhandedly throughout this country.”

Bondi also promised that the Justice Department under her command would operate independently from the White House.

The former Florida attorney general also said she supports Kash Patel as Trump's choice to lead the FBI, stating that he would be fair, despite his vow to target "government gangsters."

“I believe that Kash is the right person at this time for this job,” she insisted.
