Secretary of State Blinken makes unannounced visit to Afghanistan

Secretary of State Antony Blinken made an unannounced visit to Afghanistan on Thursday – one day after President Biden announced a complete U.S. troop withdrawl from that country by September 11.

Blinken was meeting with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani, chief executive Abdullah Abdullah, and civic figures, according to the Associated Press.

Blinken, the United State's top diplomat, also arrives after NATO said its roughly 7,000 non-American forces in Afghanistan would be departing within a few months, the wire service also reports.
