Trump media group's social network site TRUTH sets February launch date
The former president's app is meant to stand up to "the tyranny of Big Tech"
The social network being launched by former President Trump has announced Feb 21 as the official release date for its app.
The platform, which is being called TRUTH Social, will become available on Presidents Day, according to its listing in the App Store, where it is currently available for preorder.
The Trump Technology and Media Group announced the launch in October and have branded the platform a way to "stand up to the tyranny of Big Tech."
Some of its features will include a "TRUTH feed," in addition to the same notifications and other functions available on virtually all social media apps.
The app founders say they want to take a "Big Tent" approach that will bring together users with viewpoints that differ to foster a fun and productive exchange of ideas.
Beyond its primary uses, the app is meant to serve as a response to Big Tech censorship from platforms like Twitter and Facebook, which de-platformed then-President Trump following the Jan. 6 Capitol breach.
Various branches of Republican political organizations are already making use of the app. The National Republican Senatorial Committee has created an arrangement in which usernames can be reserved on the platform in exchange for donations.
The Trump Media & Technology Group was able to raise $1 billion in investments in November and has also tapped former Congressman Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) as the company's CEO. He recently left Congress to take the job.
