Accused Pentagon classified documents leaker Teixeira to be arraigned Friday
Teixeria is reportedly a systems operator or IT worker who allegedly uploaded hundreds of pages of sensitive documents into a Discord group chat
The Air National Guardsman arrested by federal agents for allegedly leaking classified Pentagon documents online will be arraigned Friday in a federal court in Boston.
The guardsman, 21-year-old Jack Teixeira, was arrested Thursday, in his hometown of North Dighton, Mass., on the app Discord, popular with so-called online "gamers."
Attorney General Merrick Garland said Thursday that FBI agents took Teixeria into custody without incident.
Teixeria is reportedly a systems operator, or IT worker, who allegedly uploaded hundreds of pages of sensitive documents into a Discord group chat.
Discord made a statement that the company is cooperating with the FBI during the ongoing investigation.
Teixeira's mother, Dawn, confirmed that her son worked overnight shifts at the National Guard base in Cape Cod.
"This guy was a Christian, anti-war, just wanted to inform some of his friends about what’s going on," one of the suspected leaker's friends told The New York Times in an interview. "We have some people in our group who are in Ukraine. We like fighting games, we like war games."
