New Mexico DA to announce charging decision on Alec Baldwin in 'Rust' shooting

New Mexico First Judicial District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies and special prosecutor Andrea Reeb will announce on Thursday their decision about whether to press charges against actor Alec Baldwin for his alleged role in the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins while shooting for the film "Rust."

The press conference will take place at 9 a.m. Mountain Standard Time, according to the Daily Mail. Baldwin is one of four potential defendants who may face charges.

Hutchins died on Oct. 21, 2021 when Baldwin shot her while filming. He previously denied pulling the trigger of the gun, though an FBI report determined that the revolver would not have discharged without someone pulling the trigger. Baldwin has settled with Hutchins' family and work on the film was slated to resume in January of 2023.

The actor has since sued the people responsible for handling and supplying the firearm in a bid to "clear his name."

"More than anyone else on that set, Baldwin has been wrongfully viewed as the perpetrator of this tragedy. By these cross-claims, Baldwin seeks to clear his name," his attorney contended in November.
