Judicial Watch sues FBI for Hunter Biden gun records
"The FBI and Secret Service have both been implicated in a corrupt clean-up operation to protect Hunter Biden from the criminal consequences of his gun scandal," Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said.
Conservative legal watchdog group Judicial Watch on Tuesday announced that it had sued the FBI seeking records related to a gun that once belonged to first son Hunter Biden.
The group previously filed a Freedom of Information Act request with the bureau for the records on Jan. 30, 2023, but was rebuffed. Judicial Watch sought "[a]ll records, including investigative reports, telephone logs, witness statements, memoranda, and firearms purchase documentation, related to the reported purchase, possession, and disposal of a firearm owned by Hunter Biden discarded in a Delaware trash receptacle circa October 2018," a press release on the suit noted.
The group also sought "[a]ll records of communications of FBI officials regarding the reported purchase, possession, and disposal of the firearm."
In October of 2018, Hallie Biden, Hunter's sister-in-law, disposed of the gun in a garbage can behind a grocery store. She later sought to recover the weapon but found it had disappeared. Judicial Watch previously sued the Secret Service for records related to the incident and the agency's response and successfully obtained relevant documents.
Included in those materials were documents implicating the FBI as an involved party in the incident, the group confirmed.
