Georgia Supreme Court reinstates six week abortion ban

Georgia's Supreme Court on Wednesday temporarily reinstated the state's six-week abortion ban, after it was recently struck down by a lower court.

The emergency petition was brought before the court by the Georgia Attorney General's Office, which asked the state supreme court to temporarily "stay" the lower court ruling and meanwhile reinstate the law, according to Axios.

The lower court decision came last week from Fulton County Superior Court Judge Robert McBurney, who ruled the law was unconstitutional because it was enacted in 2019 when Roe v. Wade and other U.S. Supreme Court precedents were in place and prohibiting the regulation of abortion before viability, Axios also reports.
