A federal judge on Thursday ordered the Trump administration to release some of its foreign aid payments for U.S. Agency for International Development contractors by Monday night.

The new deadline comes after the Supreme Court delayed U.S. District Judge Amir Ali's previous order, which told the Trump administration to unfreeze nearly $2 billion in foreign aid payments last month. The court told Ali to come up with a new timeline.

Ali on Thursday set the new deadline to release some of the aid for 6 p.m. Monday, stating it would be the “first concrete step” toward compliance with his previous order. He will also weigh a timeline for releasing the rest of the funds.

“When the Supreme Court speaks, I want to take that action as soon as possible, to give clarity,” Ali said, according to The Hill newspaper.

The order comes after the Justice Department warned that it would take weeks to pay out the money it owed contractors, who also with nonprofits challenged the freeze. The contractors alleged they were waiting on hundreds of millions of dollars in outstanding invoices from the government.

The department also said that they have completed an “individualized review process” for grants and federal assistance awards, but it was still conducting reviews of some of its contracts.
