FBI identifies two agents killed while serving a warrant this morning in Florida

Two FBI agents were fatally shot Tuesday morning while serving a warrant at a South Florida home, according to the FBI. The FBI has identified the deceased agents as Special Agent Daniel Alfin and Special Agent Laura Schwartzenberger,

Three agents are wounded, though the extent of their injuries is currently unknown. Two wounded agents were transported to a nearby hospital and are in stable condition. 

The suspect, whose name is not being released by the bureau at this time, is deceased. 

FBI Director Christopher Wray said of the morning's events, "Tragically, the FBI lost two of our today. Special Agent Daniel Alfin and Special Agent Laura Schwartzenberger, were shot and killed this morning in the line of duty while executing a federal court-ordered search warrant in a crime against children investigation in Sunrise, Florida. Three other agents were shot and wounded; two suffered injuries requiring hospital care, but both are now in stable condition. The third injured agent did not require hospitalization.

Every day, FBI Special Agents put themselves in harm's way to keep the American people safe. Special Agent Alfin and Special Agent Schwartzenberger exemplified heroism today in defense of their country. The FBI will always honor their ultimate sacrifice and will be forever grateful for their bravery. We continue to stand by our FBI Family, and the families of these Special Agents, in the days to come, bringing every resource we can to get through this together."

Per FBI policy, the bureau is presently reviewing the incident. 

Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to the incident, in Sunrise, Florida, a suburb of Fort Lauderdale, where a suspect reportedly barricaded inside the home. 

The agents' deaths were first reported by the Miami Herald and ABC News.

The warrant was reportedly being served in connection with a child exploitation case. The extent of the agents' injuries was unknown as of early afternoon.
