Sen. Rand Paul to chair the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee

Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., will be chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee in the next Congress. 

"I chose to chair this committee over another because I believe that, for the health of our republic, Congress must stand up once again for its constitutional role," Paul said on the social media platform, X. "This committee’s mission of oversight and investigations is critical to Congress reasserting itself."

Paul plans to reinstate President-elect Donald Trump's 'Remain in Mexico' policy, which was scrapped by President Joe Biden in 2022.

“Our first hearing will examine reinstating the successful ‘Remain in Mexico’ policy from the first Trump administration,” Paul said, according to The Associated Press. “We will also expeditiously move President Trump’s critical nominees, including Governor Kristi Noem, in time for Inauguration Day.”

The Kentucky senator has also said that he wanted to conduct investigations into the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic.

He has also argued the government response to COVID-19 involved too much overreach.
