Rep. Ocasio-Cortez loses backing of socialist group for not being more pro-Palestine
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez still has support of the New York City chapter of the DSA’s NPC.
Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez lost backing from the Democratic Socialists of America’s National Political Committee due to her recent stances on Israel.
She got support from the committee last month, but it was under the assumption she would oppose all funding to Israel and support protesters that were boycotting "Israeli settler-colonialism."
“Many members have supported national endorsement while at the same time demanding that AOC demonstrate a higher level of commitment to Palestinian liberation, self-determination and the immediate end to the heinous genocide in Gaza committed by Israel that aligns with DSA’s positions and expectations of socialists in office,” the group said in a statement, according to The Washington Times.
The committee praised Ocasio-Cortez for some of her stances on Palestine, but said it had concerns about some of her votes.
She still has the support of the New York City chapter of the DSA’s NPC.
Ocasio-Cortez has called for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas amid the war in Gaza and has said funding to Israel should be cut unless Gaza gets humanitarian aid.
The committee criticized Ocasio-Cortez for voting for "H.Res.888, conflating opposition to Israel’s 'right to exist' with antisemitism."
