Pelosi claims Stefanik might be 'compliant' with House GOP, Stefanik slams 'sick sexist smear'
"Imagine if these words were uttered about a Dem woman?"
U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik on Friday slammed Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi for what Stefanik claimed was a "sick sexist smear" the Democrat delivered during an interview on PBS.
Asked by the network's Judy Woodruff on Wednesday for her thoughts on Stefanik—who has been floated as a possible replacement of under-fire Rep. Liz Cheney if she is ousted as the House Republican Conference chair—Pelosi responded: "Maybe she's more, shall we say, compliant. I don't, it's not my business. I don't really know her."
Stefanik slammed that comment on Thursday, calling it a "sick sexist smear" and asking rhetorically: "Imagine if these words were uttered about a Dem woman? Would be outrage coverage & the Speaker would have to resign."
Cheney is slated to face a vote to oust her from the conference chair as early as next Wednesday.
