Massachusetts Democratic Rep. Seth Moulton's aide quits over transgender athletes comment
Moulton has come under fire from his own party this week after he told the New York Times on Thursday that Democrats was too worried about offending people that they were not being honest on issues like transgender athletes.
An aide for Democratic Massachusetts Rep. Seth Moulton resigned late Thursday over the congressman's remarks against transgender athletes participating in women's sports.
Moulton has come under fire from his own party this week after he told the New York Times on Thursday that Democrats was too worried about offending people that they were not being honest on issues like transgender athletes.
“Democrats spend way too much time trying not to offend anyone rather than being brutally honest about the challenges many Americans face,” Moulton said. “I have two little girls, I don’t want them getting run over on a playing field by a male or formerly male athlete, but as a Democrat I’m supposed to be afraid to say that.”
Matt Chilliak, Moulton’s campaign manager and director of his “Serve America” political committee, resigned his post over the comments, The Hill reported. Moulton's office and Chilliak have not commented on the departure so far.
“Millions of Americans today showed that they hate immigrants and transgender people more than they fear fascism," Chilliak posted on X early Wednesday, in response to President-elect Donald Trump winning the presidential election.
A second Democrat, New York Rep. Tom Suozzi, also slammed transgender athletes to the New York Times.
“The Democrats have to stop pandering to the far left,” Suozzi said. “I don’t want to discriminate against anybody, but I don’t think biological boys should be playing in girls’ sports. Democrats aren’t saying that, and they should be."
