Jeffries reveals he met with Biden on Thursday amid calls from Democrats for him to leave race

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., revealed in a letter written to his colleagues on Friday that he met with President Biden on Thursday night to discuss the views of the House Democratic Caucus on his reelection bid, as more Democrats call for him to drop out of the race.

Biden held a news conference on Thursday night, which was his first since November 2023, as members of his own party express concern about his ability to defeat former President Trump following his self-described weak performance in the first presidential debate.

“On behalf of the House Democratic Caucus, I requested and was graciously granted a private meeting with President Joe Biden. That meeting occurred yesterday evening,” Jeffries wrote.

“In my conversation with President Biden, I directly expressed the full breadth of insight, heartfelt perspectives and conclusions about the path forward that the Caucus has shared in our recent time together,” he added.

Jeffries did not endorse Biden for re-election in the letter.
