House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Mark Green on Sunday demanded documents and a briefing from the Department of Homeland Security following the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.

"The Committee is grateful for the swift response of Secret Service agents to protect President Trump from further harm and quickly neutralize the shooter, though tragically one rally attendee was killed, and two others have been critically injured," the Tennessee congressman said in his letter to DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.

But "the seriousness of this security failure and chilling moment in our nation’s history cannot be understated. As the U.S. Secret Service (USSS) investigates, the Committee on Homeland Security (Committee) is dedicated to conducting rigorous oversight to ensure that the American people receive answers and presidential candidates receive proper and adequate protection."

The gunman fired his shots from a rooftop nearby but outside of the campaign rally perimeter, in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Green is seeking documents by 5 p.m. Friday regarding the security plan for securing the perimeter of the rally, communications between DHS and the Executive Office of the President about any possible increase of protective resources for the security detail assigned to Trump, and briefing materials that Mayorkas and U.S. Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle used in briefing President Joe Biden about the assassination attempt on Trump.

The House committee also requested a briefing from DHS by July 22nd on the attempted assassination.
