Virginia GOP Rep. Bob Good, also the leader of the conservative House Freedom Caucus, has met the Friday deadline to formally request a recount of the primary election he narrowly lost in June.

Good, who represents Virginia's 5th Congressional District, in the southwest part of the state, made the requested Wednesday.

He lost to Trump-backed primary challenger state Sen. John McGuire by 374 votes out of 62,792 cast, according to the local news outlet The Cardinal News.

Good told supporters in an email that his campaign filed a petition with the circuit court in Goochland County, where McGuire lives. Virginia law requires that the challenged candidate must be served a copy of the petition within 10 days of certification by the State Board of Elections or the electoral board, the news outlet also reports.

“This is the critical next step to ensuring that every legal vote from the June 18 primary is properly counted," Good said in the email.
