On Day 3 of Jan. 6 hearing, Democrats call witness who say Pence pressured to delay certification
Cheney praised “the earnest efforts of the Vice President, who was determined to abide by his oath of office”
The Democrat-led House committee investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol riot called witnesses Thursday to testified to the panel's argument that Vice President Mike Pence was pressured that day in 2021 to overturn the certification of electoral votes for the 2020 presidential election.
The committee sought to prove Trump's theory that Pence had the power to delay or refuse the certification of electoral votes was baseless.
The televised hearing was the committee's third in about a week, after working largely behind closed doors for about a year.
Committee members heard from former President Trump counsel Eric Herschman, who said even those closest to Trump, including another personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, doubted the theory that Pence could stop the certification in states in where alleged fraudulent voting occurred.
Former Pence legal counsel Greg Jacob testified the former vice president never wavered in his conviction that he could not block the certification.
Jacob also said that Trump was told Jan. 4 that Pence blocking the certification was illegal.
