US, UK diplomats pledge roughly $1.5 billion to Ukraine during Kyiv visit

Diplomats from the United States and the United Kingdom on Wednesday pledged to give Ukraine about $1.5 billion in aid during a visit to Kyiv.

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Ukraine would get $700 million in humanitarian aid, according to the Associated Press.

British Foreign Secretary David Lammy said that $782 million would come from the U.K.

The pledges come as Ukraine requests to use missiles from the west amid its ongoing war with Russia. 

Blinken said he would discuss the topic with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and President Joe Biden. 

Blinken and Lammy are expected to meet with Biden on Friday. 

“Speaking for the United States, we have adjusted and adapted as needs have changed, as the battlefield has changed. And I have no doubt that we’ll continue to do that as this evolves,” Blinken said during a press conference.
